Rumor Has It … The John Dory Will Be Back
March 22, 2010 § Leave a comment
If you live in or visited New York, and had the pleasure of eating at the John Dory, it’s demise last August was cause for mourning. It was for me anyways. I loved the over-the-top decor, the knowledgeable and attentive service, the fried apple fritters, the fish-and-chips, and the desserts, really, don’t even get me started on the desserts.
Now I hear that April Bloomfield and Ken Friedman may just be bringing their 10th Avenue gem back to life in the Ace Hotel, where they’ve already scored with The Breslin. Ken Friedman confirmed to New York Magazine’s Grub Street New York blog:
that he’s negotiating a deal to occupy a vacant space on 29th Street and Broadway. He expects to solidify things with the hotel within the next week or two, and after that, there’ll be the question of whether or not the Ace can score another liquor license for a restaurant, two times the size of the original, that “may be called the John Dory, or may not be” (Friedman also says the décor may or may not look as much like “an acid trip underwater”).
If you’ve never had the pleasure, here’s what the menu and the space used to look like. You might begin to see why I believe that this news is cause for celebration.
